CAIRO, Ill. (KFVS) - Legacy Training, Inc. plans on celebrating the cultural history of Cairo and the area surrounding the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers.
“Confluences” will take place at the Cairo Junior/Senior High School on Saturday, April 26 at 9 a.m.
The conference will feature a guided bus tour of several historic sites in Cairo, a continental breakfast and lunch, and several presentations.
The presentations will discuss, among other topics, the similarities between Cairo and the world Charles Dickens created in “A Christmas Carol,” folksongs collected from late-19th century steamboat workers, narratives from the Mound City National Cemetery, and poetry inspired by southeast Missouri’s culture and nature.
Don Patton, president of The Cairo Historical Preservation Project, Inc., is looking forward to the event, “We are excited to participate in the ‘Confluences’ conference. This event presents a fantastic opportunity to showcase our initiatives in historic preservation within our community.”
