About Spark! in Rushville

Rushville has a long history of innovation beginning with the Scripps Family's contributions to journalism that started with The Prairie Telegraph, still operating as The Rushville Times, to their support of the arts in Schuyler County. The Hub Arts and Cultural Center has become the model for collaborations among art institutions and artists in the region. Under its "Why not here?" motto, The HUB and its collaborators are bringing a high level of quality to the events and arts being produced throughout the region. It is this collaborative spirit and the work being produced as a result that has earned The HUB a prominent feature in the arts section of Spark! Places of Innovation.

As a companion to the Spark! exhibition in Rushville, The HUB Arts and Cultural Center is producing an exhibit titled, Why Here? Why Not Here?, about Schuyler County arts organizations past and present. The companion exhibit will feature Pandora’s Playhouse, Farwell House, Schuyler Singers, Schuyler Arts Council, dance studios, and more. Learn more about Rushville and its road to Spark! in this article by Matt Meacham.

Plan your visit to Rushville for Spark! and other local attractions and events, including Open Mic Night at Rick & Rich's Tap, exhibits at the Schuyler Jail Museum, a movie at the Princess Theater, fun at Ford's Rythmn Lanes, and more.

Spark! Places on Innovation is presented in partnership with The HUB Arts and Cultural Center, the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, and Illinois Humanities.

About Spark! Places of Innovation

Spark! Places of Innovation, part of Illinois Humanities’ Museum on Main Street program, is a Smithsonian traveling exhibition that highlights innovation in rural America from the perspectives of people who have lived it. Their words, images, and experiences, gathered through an ambitious crowdsourcing initiative, are the heartbeat of the exhibition. The communities featured in Spark! – including seven small towns in Illinois – have enhanced their vitality through innovations in fields such as technology, agriculture, economic development, education, and the arts. Explore the diversity, ingenuity, and tenacity of rural Americans in Spark! Places on Innovation.

Spark! will visit seven towns in Illinois from June 17, 2023, to March 29, 2024.
