Local stories position Illinois as a national leader ahead of America’s 250th anniversary

CHICAGO – January 30, 2026 – Illinois Humanities will unveil its statewide America 250 initiative during a press conference on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the National Museum of Mexican Art. As the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Illinois Humanities is investing in local voices, histories, and conversations to shape the national celebration. The initiative puts Illinois at the forefront of national efforts to mark America’s 250th anniversary through local stories and civic participation.
