Join Illinois Humanities for the release of “On Wisdom and Vision: Humanities Organizations in Illinois during COVID-19” to learn about how humanities organizations have been impacted by COVID-19 and the ways in which these organizations are mitigating the effects of the pandemic.

With support largely from National Endowment for the Humanities CARES Act funds, Illinois Humanities conducted statewide crisis-relief grantmaking of more than $700,000 to 177 organizations in 2020. We’ve undertaken an extensive effort to explore questions such as: Where did funds go? What did organizations do with relief support? What is the context for their work? What lessons can we learn from these organizations’ responses?

This report represents a timely effort to describe Illinois’ public humanities ecosystem and an opportunity to consider the ways in which humanities organizations can help equip Illinois to forge a better future for us all.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
  • nonprofit humanities and cultural organizations interested in understanding how their work fits into a broader ecosystem within Illinois
  • funders and philanthropists who are weighing the ways in which investments in the humanities, arts, and culture intersect and are impactful
  • policy makers and planners involved in developing approaches to enable strong, equitable recovery from the pandemic
  • researchers, for whom questions about the juxtaposition of the pandemic with humanities, arts and culture organizations are relevant and urgent
