Julia Siciliano / "A (Fictional) Conversation Between Beethoven and Schubert"
A narrated piano recital, this program depicts Julia Siciliano’s imagined conversation between Beethoven and Schubert, had they ever met in person.
Program
- Franz Schubert Impromptu Op.142 No.2
- Ludwig van Beethoven Sonata Op.26
- Franz Schubert Sonata D.960
This program contains some of the most reverent, profound music in the solo piano repertoire. Beethoven wrote the Funeral March of his Sonata Op.26 for his longtime patron, Prince Karl Lichnowsky, his conscription in the music reading “on the death of a hero.” Schubert was moved to write this Impromptu over the death of Beethoven, which melodically and sentimentally refers to the first movement of this sonata. Schubert wrote his last piano sonata, the D.960 on his deathbed. It is regarded as one of the most sublime sonatas in the entire repertoire.
