This event is presented by Illinois Humanities Southern Foreground HUB PARTNER SI CABE: Southern Illinois Culture and Arts in Bilingual Education.

When the rare total solar eclipse travels through Mexico, the United States, and Canada on the afternoon of Monday, April 8, 2024, the two-time GRAMMY™ nominated Mexican folk music organization and performing group Sones de México Ensemble will be right there on the path of totality to greet it with an outdoor workshop and concert at Alto Vineyards.

This special daytime concert will broadcast live from 11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. on Facebook and YouTube by Sones de México Ensemble to pay musical tribute to this rare cosmic phenomenon and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the band.

This concert is presented as part of a day-long celebration of the eclipse called, Cosmic Crossroads Eclipse.
Schedule
  • 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.: “La Danza del Sol” (the Dance of the Sun) - Aztec Dance Workshop
  • 11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.: 30th Anniversary Concert by two-time GRAMMY™ Award Nominated Sones de Mexico Ensemble
  • 12:45 - 3:15 p.m.: 2024 Solar Eclipse
  • 5:00 p.m.: Beyond the Music: A Music and Culinary Geography of Mexico - a lecture-demo featuring Chef Dudley Nieto
  • 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.: "Fandango en la viña" open jam session with music and percussive dance
  • 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.: music from local favorite, Leight July

Alto Vineyards offers two packages to experience this day-long celebration in-person. 

  • General Admission: $20 admission fee per car (parking pass) 
  • VIP Admission: $200 each, $300 per couple, $50 for children 11 and under
