Congratulations to the winners of the 9th Annual Gwendolyn Brooks Youth Poetry Awards
On Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, we will celebrate the winners of the 9th Annual Gwendolyn Brooks Youth Poetry Awards.
867 poems were submitted to this year's competition in grades K-12. 25 winners and 12 honorable mentions will be awarded at the ceremony. This year, we are also awarding a Passing the Torch Award to a pair of winners - an adult champion of youth poetry, as well as an outstanding youth poet whose poem reflects the moment, is uniquely thought-provoking, and lights the path forward for others, including their peers. We are excited to celebrate all the winners, honorable mentions, and this special award.
During this celebration, winning poets will read their poems onstage. Honorable mentions will have their name and poem title read by the emcee and stand to be recognized.
The event is by invitation only. If you would like to join us or have questions, please email us at poetry@ilhumanities.org.
