Dear humanities community,

We want to thank everyone who's reached out to ask questions and share resources related to recent Executive Orders and federal funding.

In the midst of uncertainty (and the anxiety and frustrations that can come with it), we can be certain of the fact that the work we do is essential to our communities.

Illinois Humanities staff and board are committed to our mission, vision, and values. We believe the humanities are central to a state that is just, creative and connected. And we, like hundreds of other public humanities organizations throughout Illinois - archives, museums, libraries, ethnic, cultural, and art centers, as well as journalism and civic groups, have missions designed to help community members stay connected and engage in conversations about their past, present, and future.

Building community, being in conversation, imagining possibilities, guarding against isolation—the work our humanities community does every day—is how we ensure our state is just, creative and connected.

We'll do our best to keep an eye on how things evolve, and will share ideas and opportunities as we have them. Please do the same with us. We appreciate you and look forward to staying in touch.

Best,

Gabrielle Lyon, Executive Director
Jai Winston, Board Chair
